Թ is a member of The Tuition Exchange, Inc. (TE) as well as the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC-TEP), which allows qualifying dependents of eligible OCU employees to apply for and possibly receive tuition exchange awards. While access to the Tuition Exchange Program and Council of Independent Colleges exchange is intended to benefit employees and their dependents, it is not a guaranteed benefit.
Definitions
- – The TE program enables the dependents of faculty and staff at participating institutions to attend one of more than 700 private and public colleges and universities via a reciprocal scholarship program with tuition reduced or waived.
- – The CIC-TEP is a network of CIC colleges and universities willing to accept, tuition-free, students from families of full-time employees of other CIC-TEP institutions.
- Exchange Award – Value of the tuition covered by either the TE or CIC-TEP program
- Certification – Approval as a candidate for an exchange award
To be eligible to participate in the program, eligible employees' children (by birth, marriage or legal adoption) must meet the Federal government's definition of “dependent” as used when applying for financial aid, which includes among other criteria, that a child be under age 24 and unmarried. Eligible employees are full-time faculty and staff members who have at least four months of continuous full-time service completed prior to the beginning of the semester in which the award is requested. Neither employees themselves nor spouses of employees are eligible to receive tuition exchange scholarships.
Tuition exchange awards may be provided to a qualifying dependent of a full-time employee or retiree who meets the following requirements.
Applicants for a tuition exchange award must meet either of these conditions:
- Be a current, full-time faculty or staff member who has completed four months of continuous full-time service at the University prior to the first day of classes for which the award is to be applied, or
- Be a retiree entitled to all retiree benefits
The student must:
- Satisfy IRS requirements to prove dependent status
- Not have been awarded a bachelor’s degree
- Meet the established requirements for admission to the participating institution
- Once admitted, continue to meet existing requirements above and to maintain satisfactory academic progress at the participating institution
The deadline to submit an application will vary from school to school. Students are responsible for applying for an award within the timeline established by the import school, the institution offering TE scholarships.
First-time applicants: The student must submit an application for admission to the participating TE or CIC institution. Admission applications must be completed in accordance with each institution’s admission requirements and procedures. This process typically occurs during the fall prior to the student’s anticipated fall semester of enrollment at a participating exchange institution. Թ the and websites for a list of the participating institutions. Each exchange institution determines its exchange program policies and procedures. Many schools also require the student to complete the Federal Application For Student Aid (FAFSA). The Liaison Officers at the exchange institutions will notify the student that their application has been accepted, rejected, or placed on the wait list for an exchange award.
In order to be certified to receive an exchange award, the employed parent or guardian of the student must upload their most recent tax return confirming eligible dependent status to their bswift employee file found in your profile (retirees may submit their tax return to Human Resources). Financial information may be redacted.
Re-certifications: Awards are made on an annual basis and must be renewed each year. Continued participation in the program will be determined based on the parent’s eligibility and the student’s continued eligibility and good academic standing.
Certification for an exchange award does not qualify a student for admission to a participating exchange program institution, nor does admission to a participating exchange program institution qualify a student for an exchange award.
Exchange awards are granted by the import institution, the school offering a TE Scholarship. Participating schools are responsible for developing criteria to determine which import applicants are offered an award. The University cannot guarantee that any applicant, no matter how well qualified, will receive an award from the host institution.

Exchange awards are limited to a maximum of eight semesters of continuous, full-time undergraduate enrollment or until completion of a baccalaureate degree, whichever occurs first. Exchange awards may only be used for full-time matriculated undergraduate study during the academic year. If the employment of a member of the faculty or staff terminates, for any reason, while his or her child is attending another college or university on a tuition exchange award, the award will be terminated at the end of the term in which separation of employment takes place. Notification of eligibility does not guarantee that a child will receive a tuition exchange award. The award is still subject to approval by the importing college or university to which the child has applied. If there will be a change in the dependent’s participation in the program (i.e. withdrawal from the host institution, early graduation, etc.) the employee must notify Human Resources.
Employees are responsible for determining any deadlines for tuition exchange applications at the institution(s) their dependent child would like to apply for an award
